Day 21 - Monkey Island and return home

We were collected at 7.30 for a trip to Monkey Island.  We went back to Gamboa but to a small boat terminal further north up the River Chagres to Gatun Lake which is the artificial lake created when the canal was built. We saw more ships waiting to enter the Panama Canal.

We went on a speedboat up to the islands but couldnt get off the boat.  There are a lot of islands here with Howler Monkeys, White Faced Capuchin Monkeys and Geoffroy’s Tamarins.  We saw all 3 and they came very close to us but only because the guides were feeding them.  It is very like Tortuguero in Costa Rica but without the huge number of tourists.

We also saw a cayman and some iguanas as well as Ospreys, Herons, Pelicans and Vultures.

We were taken back to our hotel where we finished packing and checked out.  We had 3 hours to kill so went for a walk along the sea front but in the opposite direction.  The beach was full of rubbish, mainly plastic, brought in by the tide.  We didnt go far as it was so very hot.  We went up to the hotel pool and relaxed there for a couple of hours, then got changed.

Our guide picked us up early.  On the way to the airport he stopped the car for a final photo of us in front of some high rise building that are similar to those in Dubai.

We are now at the end of our Panama tour and the end of our holiday and therefore the end of the blog.  The incoming flight has arrived and all looks good for being on time to Madrid.
