Day 1 - Travelling and arrival in Guatemala
The journey here was good and everything on time.
We had over an hour to kill at Heathrow so amused ourselves by watching the floor cleaning robot going up and down the departures area in its preset routine. Some passengers tried to jump in front of it but it always stopped abruptly and never hit anyone or anything. I told Paul I would like one of those at home but I think it fell on deaf ears.
Our flight to Madrid caused some concern as we were hoarded onto a Finnair plane, with a complete Finnish crew. Several passengers asked if they were on the right plane. Even the regular recorded announcements were in Finnish and English - no Spanish!
There are 6 of us on this tour. The drive to the hotel took over 2 hours mainly because of the congestion in Guatemala City. We are staying in Antigua, a colonial town with traditionally built houses and cobbled streets.
It was dark when we arrived but we had a short rest and went for a look around the town. The cobbled streets are really difficult to walk on and cars can only move around very slowly.
